2009 World Wide Photowalk

Well, I made the deadline this year. I narrowed it down from 96 to 3 pictures. Unfortunately, I could only submit 2 so I dropped the truck. I added it here because Ryan liked the shot. He went with me this year. It was fun to share time with him.

So, at Easter we went to ECU to see Ryan rather than him coming home. Of course, ECU was playing Rice in baseball to it was a good time to go down anyway. When we got to the game and parked, we were getting out of the Suburban when I heard this terrible screaching going on. After we looked around, we realized the tree we parked in front of had a birds nest in the mulch. It was a Killdeer sitting on her nest.

They're really neat birds. To draw predators away from the next, they fly a short distance away and then act as if they have a lame wing in an attempt to get the predator to follow them. Yes, we witnessed this as she tried to get us away from her nest.

After the game, we carefully got back into the Suburban to leave, but I wanted to get a quick picture. I snuck around the truck and then realized the daddy bird was nearby as well. He eventually came over to the nest and hung out for a while.

Worldwide Photo Walk

Some of my friends have seen these pictures already on my Facebook or Flickr sites. So, why am I posting them again? Well, partly because they were some of the first "serious" images a I shot and since this is the beginning of my blog, I thought it appropriate to start with them. The greater reason is because I shot them in Fredericksburg, VA during the 1st Annual Worldwide Photo Walk last August and this past week Scott Kelby announced the 2nd Annual Worldwide Photo Walk on July 18, 2009. The link to the website is http://worldwidephotowalk.com/. If you have any interest, not matter what level, in photography I strongly urge checking out this site and then signing up for one of the walks. You'll get to meet some terrific people as well as take some great pictures.

Getting off the ground...

This is my first blog post. I'm beginning to get comfortable with my photography so this is an opportunity to get it viewed. I welcome any feedback, positive or negative.

I will soon be posting images from the world-side photowalk as well as DLWS - Outer Banks. While I'm at it, I highly recommend DLWS. They are a first class outfit with tremendous instructors and an all around great group of people. You can find out more about them at www.digitallandscape.org.
